Switzerland: - February 2018 – Telecom26 AG joins the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) as a general member.

Telecom26 is a maritime operator and global connectivity partner, integrating unparalleled global connectivity with cellular service at sea.

Telecom26 joins WBA to enhance its maritime offering by including PasspointTM. In addition,Telecom26 is extending its global connectivity services to include roaming on Wi-Fi.

“As a global connectivity partner leader, Telecom26 is joining WBA to actively participate in transforming the subscriber’s Wi-Fi hotspot experience while at sea and roaming globally” said Michael Ashdown, Chief Executive Officer for Telecom26. “Telecom26’s goal is to actively participate with WBA to enhance and evolve both the global roaming experience and roaming at sea with Wi-Fi. The two roaming experiences go hand-in-hand.”

Telecom26 is actively participating in WBA’s Next Gen Wi-Fi Live @ MWC with its’ Global SmartSIM.

The WBA is leading the evolution of Wi-Fi by addressing the business problems, challenges and opportunities that exist for wireless services for service providers, enterprise and cities. “Our membership want us to enable the continued improvement of the customer experience, coverage, security and architectures on Wi-Fi, delivering on Wi-Fi Roaming services and NGH/PasspointTM”, said Tiago Rodrigues, General Manager at WBA. “Over the next year we will see the realization and benefits of Next Gen Wi-Fi 802.11ax and we will be working across the membership and with Industry Standards bodies to ensure that the role of Wi-Fi technology is optimized to enable the convergence that consumers, businesses and industry stakeholders need in the 5G Era.
