Our team of maritime connectivity experts have long been focused on the needs of the commercial shipping sector. In June we celebrated The Day of the Seafarer, by having another deep dive into our maritime connectivity portfolio.

The Golden Globe race starts in September and will be keenly followed by our team of maritime connectivity experts.  Described as the most dangerous sailing race in the world, this is actually only the third time the race has been held.  The first in 1968-9 was won by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston who consequently became the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world. His voyage lasted just over ten months.

In recent blogs we have looked at how and why connectivity is still key to the success of IoT networks – and discussed how operators need to be able to detect unauthorised devices in a state of permanent roaming on a network in order to effectively monetise IoT traffic.

Last week saw the conclusion of the auction for India’s 5G spectrum with the biggest spenders being Jio splashing $19 billion, Airtel $5.4 billion and Vodafone $2.4 billion.  According to this piece in Reuters, “India's government aims to begin the rollout of 5G by October this year” with India’s News18 website reporting that:

“5G will do much more than significantly improve your network connection. It will bring the possibility of having billions of devices gathering and sharing information in real-time to tackle some of the most pressing issues of the world.

This piece in IoT Tech News caught the eye of the Brits in our IoT Connectivity team.  It discusses how the UK Government is turning to technology to help diagnose and treat the COVID-created backlog of National Health Service (NHS) patients needing attention – and how IoT is already “enabling better healthcare solutions and services”.
