Telecom26 Is Heading to SMM Hamburg 2026

This September, Telecom26 will be on the ground at SMM Hamburg, the world's leading trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery, and marine technology. Taking place 1–4 September 2026 at Hamburg Messe, SMM brings together more than 2,200 exhibitors and tens of thousands of visitors from across the global maritime industry like shipowners, shipyards, ports, operators, and technology providers all under one roof.

For Telecom26, SMM is a natural fit. As a full-service provider of maritime communications, we spend our time solving exactly the kinds of connectivity challenges that will be on the agenda in Hamburg: keeping vessels, crews, and cargo connected wherever a voyage takes them.

Why We're Attending

The maritime industry is in the middle of a digital transformation. Digital ships, IoT-enabled freight tracking, crew welfare connectivity, and increasingly sophisticated onboard systems all depend on one thing: reliable, secure connectivity at sea and in port. SMM is where the people responsible for making those decisions, like shipping managers, fleet operators, and technology integrators, come together to compare notes and find partners.

What We'll Be Talking About

Our maritime portfolio is designed to give vessel operators the flexibility to manage costs while keeping every part of their operation connected. Highlights we'll be discussing on the show floor include:

• Nearshore Connectivity — cost-effective mobile data roaming for the majority of a vessel's time spent in port or coastal waters, extending up to 30 km offshore with no SIM changes required.
• Maritime IoT Use Cases — global roaming coverage that keeps digital ship operations and freight-tracking devices connected, wherever they are in the world.
• Private 5G Network — a 3GPP-compliant private network that turns a vessel into a fully connected, high-performance industrial site at sea, with secure, low-latency connectivity for real-time operations and safety-critical applications.

On the innovation side, we're also developing new capabilities with our partner Trasna, with more details to be announced soon. The work centers on eIM (eSIM IoT Manager), the "mission control" component of the GSMA's new IoT eSIM architecture (SGP.32), which enables organisations to remotely add, remove, enable, disable, and update eSIM profiles across large device fleets without ever touching the hardware. For maritime operators, this kind of remote, automated profile management is especially valuable: ships and offshore platforms can switch between global and local connectivity profiles to optimise cost and compliance, without a crew member ever needing to swap a physical SIM. This innovation will also have an impact on our maritime offer, so stay tuned.
