We recently attended Kaleido Intelligence's webinar, “Bridging the Implementation Gap: How SGP.32 Successfully Comes to Life,” alongside experts from Orange, Airnity and IDEMIA. The session offered a deep dive into what it actually takes to move Roaming Sponsor and SGP.32 eSIMs from concept to large-scale operation, and for us, it landed at exactly the right moment.

Why This Session Mattered to Us

As a GSMA member with a global mobile core already supporting IoT, enterprise mobility, and maritime connectivity, Telecom26 has been closely tracking the evolution of the SGP.32 standard and the role of the eIM (eSIM IoT Manager) in bringing it to life. We wrote about the fundamentals of the eIM back in October, in our Tech Tip on what an eIM is and why it matters, so a session built around turning that theory into successful real-world implementation was one we didn't want to miss.

What We Took Away

A few themes stood out from the panel discussion:

•    SGP.32 is a genuine step forward, not just an upgrade. The panel made a compelling case for why SGP.32 offers real structural advantages over legacy SGP.02 eSIMs for IoT, particularly around remote, automated lifecycle management at scale, rather than incremental improvements on the old model.

•    Customers want outcomes, not technology. One of the clearest messages: enterprises aren't asking for “an eSIM standard.” They're asking for secure orchestration, reliable lifecycle management, and connectivity that just works across borders and device fleets, regardless of which standard delivers it.

•    Implementation is where projects succeed or fail. The panel was candid about the blocks of scaling Roaming Sponsor and SGP.32 eSIMs into production and the best practices that separate a successful rollout from a stalled one.

Where This Leaves Us

This conversation reinforced something we already believe: the industry is moving decisively toward centralised, automated, standards-aligned IoT connectivity management and away from manual provisioning and physical SIM logistics.

It's exactly the space we've been building in. We're continuing to invest in our own eIM capabilities, aligned with the GSMA's SGP.32 framework, to give customers the remote lifecycle management, security, and multi-network resilience that this webinar confirmed the market is demanding. We'll have more to share on this soon.

In the meantime, our eUICC cards are already available today, letting customers upgrade existing devices ahead of full eIM rollout.
